Fourteen questions people ask most before choosing a coating. For anything specific to your floor, calling is faster than reading.
Frequently asked questions
Are you the company that installs the floor?
No. We connect New Orleans homeowners and businesses with a licensed local concrete coatings installer. We don't do the work — we route your request to one contractor who does. Everything about the job itself — the site visit, the price, the contract, the schedule, and any warranty — is between you and that installer.
Is there a charge for the referral?
There is no charge to you for the referral. Ask the installer directly whether the site visit or quote carries a fee before they come out.
What does a garage floor coating cost in New Orleans?
Flake epoxy usually runs $6 to $9 per square foot installed — about $2,500 to $5,500 for a two-car garage. Polyaspartic runs $7 to $12 per square foot, metallic $9 to $15 or more.
What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?
Epoxy goes on thick and costs less; it yellows in sunlight and takes longer to cure. Polyaspartic cures in hours and keeps its color, at a higher price. A common build uses an epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat.
How long until I can use the floor?
Foot traffic after about 24 hours; vehicles after three to seven days on an epoxy topcoat, or 24 to 48 hours on a polyaspartic topcoat.
Why does everyone talk about moisture testing?
Because moisture from below is the most common reason coatings fail here. Moisture in a slab can make a floor coating fail after it goes down, which is why coating makers generally require a moisture test first.
Can a coating go down in humid weather?
Yes, with care. South Louisiana has a hot, humid climate, and humidity can matter twice for a coating: moisture in the slab, and condensation on a cool slab during application. Installers check the dew point and hold off if the slab is cold enough to collect condensation.
How is the concrete prepared?
By diamond grinding (or shot blasting on large floors), which removes the weak surface and opens it so the coating can grip. Acid etching is a weaker shortcut.
Can cracks be fixed before coating?
Yes. Cracks are cut open and filled, and spalls are patched, as a separate line on the quote — significant repair on a garage usually adds $200 to $800. Repaired cracks can still show through a solid-color finish; flake hides them better.
Can you coat over paint or an old epoxy floor?
Not directly. Anything loose or failing is ground off; a well-bonded old coat is at least ground to give the new one a grip. Removal is its own line on the quote.
Will the coating hide every flaw in the slab?
No. Flake hides small flaws well, solid color hides little, and metallic shows nearly everything. Low spots and patched areas often stay visible.
How do I take care of a coated floor?
Sweep or dust-mop grit, clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, wipe up chemicals, and put mats at the door. A worn topcoat can usually be renewed without redoing the whole floor.
What should the quote include?
A written quote worth comparing lists four things as separate lines: prep, repair, the coating system, and the finish. It should also state the cure times in writing.
